VIA Rail Canada Offers Students Two
Deals
Summary
VIA Rail Canada is attempting to be closer to,
“travelers aged 12 to 25” (Guggia, 2014, para. 1). Special offers that VIA Rail
Canada provide will help students save money. There are two ways how traveling is
becoming be more affordable.
First, the new 20/20 Discount Cards. This card will
provide students with a 20% discount on purchases over 20 dollars. The offer to
buy these cards will be available until October 31st.
Second, the Unlimited Semester Pass, which will give
for the students the opportunity to travel from Kingston to Windsor or Quebec
City and back for 4 months and without any limits.
The Discount Cards and the Passes are, “a big help
to students”, according to the author (Guggia, 2014, para. 1). I think, he is
implying that students from other cities now have the possibility to visit
their families more often during their study terms.

My opinion
As an inveterate train traveler and student, I can’t
disagree with the author. Using trains or busses from one city to another is
always very expensive. It makes visiting families more difficult for students.
Also, students are people who usually try to save some money for school,
college or university, and try not to spend money unnecessarily. VIA Rail
Canada makes the opportunity to visit family, friends and new places more
available for students, while saving money, as well. In my opinion, this is
great news.
Question
Does your family live far away from you? How often
do you visit your family?

My family lives in Mississauga where I live in Brampton. It is not a really far distance but I do see them every weekend and I stay there for the whole weekend to catch up.
ОтветитьУдалитьMargaret, it is great! You are lucky having your family close enough to visit them every week. Thank you very much for your respond!
УдалитьYes, I live with my family. I don't plan on moving out until I graduate and have a full-time job. Basically, I have to be ready to settle down.
ОтветитьУдалитьI totally understand you, Valerie. We can't live with our parents forever. However, it is great to be independent from parents, and to be responsible for yourself. Thank you very much for your respond, Valerie!
Удалитьmy family lives quite far away i cant even use train to travel their bus yes definetaly the deal provided by the rail canada is awesome for the students as some of the students are the frequent travellers who commute by xtrains and now they have an oppurtunity to save their money by getting those students discount card.Thats sp cool.
ОтветитьУдалитьOh, Bhumika, thank you very much for sharing your experience with me! Unfortunately, I have never actually seen these discount card and pass. How I understand, you use it a lot. I really happy for you, that you take the advantage from it, and you can visit your family more frequent. Thank you very much for your respond, Bhumika! It is always nice to read your comments!
УдалитьI don’t have many family members that live far away from me, as I ‘m fortunate enough to live in close proximity to most of them. However, there are a few members who are not within close range, and this often creates difficulty and challenge in getting together. Fortunately, I get to see them during the holidays for family get-together, such on Christmas and Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is coming up in less than a week; so than let the good times begin!
ОтветитьУдалитьThank you very much for your comment, Lorna! To be honest with you, I had always had the same situation before I came to Canada. I used to live with my family, but very far from my relatives. We used to visit them during my vocations in school, and we had to spend 3 days in a train from one city to another. I loved these times! Any way, good luck with your trip for the Thanksgiving weekend, if you're still planning to visit your relatives.

ОтветитьУдалитьWe think this is an amazing idea and opportunity! We have never traveled via train and this student discount gives us the opportunity to give a go. It is evident that students don't travel often while in school since they are determined to save every last penny. However, we believe it is important for students to travel in order to experience different cultures and lifestyles in order to enrich their own and to achieve personal growth. You raised the point that it is expensive to travel, that is exactly why they have this discount initiated in the first place. This way, students have the opportunity to travel across the province and save money.
I see what you mean, Keran, and I 100% agree with you. The discount card saves money for students, which is great! I remember, I was studying with my friends who lived in other city and had to use trains in order to get in university. They would have to spend lots of money, if they hadn't gotten the student discount. The traveling for student is important as well. I would love to move in another city for some vocations (for reading week)!!!
УдалитьI have family all over the place, some very close to me, some in different cities, and some in different countries.
ОтветитьУдалитьAlex, you must be a traveler. I would glad to know how often do you visit all of your relatives. I'm glad that now you are familiar with opportunity which VIA Rail Canada provides for students. I'm really recommend you to take advantage from it.
